Beebo / Hector Firmware 403

This is a major and scary update for Beebo / Hector. If you’re not feeling adventurous wait a few days until more testing has occurred. This fixes a number of small issues and a few very large ones.

The key issue it fixes is with file system degradation over time. Due to some quantum space magic called read disturb, a read only file system will change after you’ve read it enough times. This happens after 4-7 years with Beebo, so this suddenly became a major (and amazingly hard to fix) issue recently. This fix swaps to a filesystem that can cope with this and automatically heals itself. It also updates basically all the code, fixing many minor and major bugs and fundamentally changing the underlying architecture of Beebo / Hector.

This is a 6.3 gb download and will take at least half an hour to install. Things will look scary during the install but don’t panic.

To install, unzip the download file onto a flash drive, and start up the pedal with the flash drive inserted. If your unit is running a vaguely recent firmware, it should automatically start installing the update after a few minutes. You’ll see the screen displaying some text telling you not to panic. At this point, wander off and come back in half an hour or so.
